ART Intensives vs. Weekly Sessions: Which Is Right for You?
What’s an ART intensive?
A single extended session (2–3 hours) or a brief series in one week. The structure allows you to target multiple scenes in a focused window with fewer context switches.
When an intensive may fit
Single-incident trauma (e.g., accident, one medical event)
Tight schedules or travel from out of town
You prefer concentrated work with clear start/finish for each target
When weekly is wiser
Complex trauma with many targets to pace
You want more integration time between sessions
You’re building skills alongside ART (sleep, boundaries, couples work)
Cost, fit, and aftercare
Cost: Intensive = higher per visit, often fewer total visits; weekly = spread out.
Fit check: Goals, stamina, medical considerations, and support system.
Aftercare: Hydration, light movement, journaling, early night, and next-day light schedule.
Quick decision checklist
Is my main concern narrow and time-bound → consider intensive.
Is my history layered/complex or am I early in stabilization → weekly.
Do I have post-session support and flex time the day after → helps both.
